“A tribute to my Mom – 2012”

Ephesians 6 (NIV)

“A small tribute to my mother”

As I study Ephesians 6 on today…. I began to take inventory and realized that my mother was a big baller and a shot call back in the day in the hood… I don’t have the testimony as a child of lack.. My mother always provided us with everything we needed including taking us to church and making sure we had a strong relationship with God, she made sure we made education a priority and pursuing our dreams as to what we wanted to become a topic of  discussion.
She made sure we had  a clean and beautiful home decorated with  French Provincial   fine furniture from Better Homes and Garden that use to sit on Long Beach Blvd. in the LBC…(Long Beach, California).
Back in the day..If that was not enough of what they call hood living… We even had a refrigerator that had automatic ice and water, and I’ve always been a hustler, remembering that I use to sale her ice to my friends in the yard. Then we had the opportunity to go into our game room and play our very own real bumper pool table that my mom won on the TV show Let’s make a deal.. Then if that was not enough, she went to the Price is Right and won her very first brand new Buick Sky hawk so she could now take her girls to school in style… As I look back, I recall this same piano that sit in my living room today, came from my mom’s living room that she bought for my oldest sister, who did master playing fine Mozart pieces and traditional classic sounds we do not hear about to often in our culture.. I recall my mom taking us downtown Long Beach for our very first piano recital where my sister;s and I would participate and show off our musical abilities to play piano.  Our music teacher that my mom hired was named the late Edith P. Murphy.. She was a little bitty Caucasian lady that lived a few houses down from us when we originally lived on another popular street called “Olive Avenue” ..   As a child I recall loving to cook… My mom put me in a chair and taught me how to cook my very first pot of hot buttered grits at 5 years old, home made buscuits, tea cakes, etc. and a full soul food dinner, which she even taught me how to gut fish, cut up a whole chicken and clean chitterlings water thin (yuck), but I love them to this day once a year… It’s been on in the kitchen every since… Now, I’ve never been one for all that house work, and pray the day God sends me back a Butler (lol).. But what I am trying to say that all what we call “Hood” experiences are not bad… Then to add the wonderful 10 families that lived around us…The house to the left (God fearing Woman filled with the Holy Ghost) on the right (Holy Ghost filled family).. We were surrounded by goodness when I was a little child… (Of note, my mom was a single black woman).. She went to school and earned her High School Diploma at Wilson High School for Adults, then pursued her a degree and career in Child Development.. Soon after she entered back into school to obtain her Real Estate license in ~1974 and she is still active and sold my son his very first town home in 2005… There were some good, good days ahead from that day forward… As I give this tribute to my mom right here and right, I confess that we may not have ever gotten along from as long as I can remember, but I have no doubts in my mind that my mother loves me with everything that she has, which in turns put that same kind of love in me for my children…
All I’m trying to say is we discredit people and where we come from, but our mother’s gave us the best that they have and that was love with a large pinch of class and fear of the Lord… I salute my mom on Today “Corine Bolden” was has been an inspiration and a true light when it comes to being a mother… I don’t agree with all her ways, but I do agree that she is ONE LOVING and Kind person… Ephesians 6 says to: Honor thy mother and thy Father… Dad is awesome too and I love him to death!!!!! Shall I say no more!
I hope someone is blessed by this and think about all the good things your parents did for you…..

Ephesians 6

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Final Greetings

21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. 22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you. 23 Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
