Closure

“Closure brings  Peace and healing……”

Luke 22:42″Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Isaiah 53:5 (NIV) 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,   he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

April 7, 2012 “Day 46 of Lent” Intercessory Prayer

This has been a beautiful journey these past 46 days… I feel like I’ve brought closure to a lot of situations in my life on this 40+ day journey….   As we embark upon bringing this Lenten season to a close on tomorrow, we will be  praying and discussion “CLOSURE” on today..  When  we define the word closure in the personal realm of our lives, some of us need closure on relationships, a passing of a love one, unsolved mysteries, murders and deaths… Some of us still stand and seek justice for people that had not say in their rights being violated… Sometimes bringing an individual to justice bring closure to a dyeing situation… “Closure is very important to go on!”

Whatever your case may be, please know that Jesus paid the ultimate price for us all…   Jesus went to Calvary to save a wretch like you and me… That’s love and that’s as ultimate closure as it gets in my life….

Romans 7:1-25 ESV / 1 helpful vote

Or do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law is binding on a person only as long as he lives? For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress. Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. …

1 Thessalonians 2:4 “But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.”

Romans 1:1-32  (NIV)

Romans 1

1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake. 6 And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. 7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:  Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul’s Longing to Visit Rome 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 9 God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you. 11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.

14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,  just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Man’s Ruin: Romans 1:1-32

by Donald Grey Barnhouse

Eerdmans   |  1952

Overview

“[W]hy have I chosen to direct your attention to that epistle of Paul’s which was sent originally to the Roman church? It is because the epistle to the Romans has the most complete diagnosis of the plague of man’s sin, and the most glorious setting forth of the simple remedy of justification by faith apart from the works of the law.” Thus begins Part One of Barnhouse’s massive commentary on Romans. Entitled Man’s Ruin, Part One covers Romans 1:1–32. With the deft eye of a master exegete, Barnhouse preaches on a number of issues in messages which include “The Trinity,” “The Communion of the Saints,” “God’s Righteousness” and 24 others.

Through a discussion of mankind’s fallenness may be difficult for many to stomach, Barnhouse’s meditation on man’s separation from God is a necessary component to any study of Romans. As Barnhouse expresses himself, “It is not pleasant to set forth these truths in the ears of men who do not wish to hear the truth, but it is in faithfulness to God that we thus speak.”

 Preface

When I first became pastor of the Philadelphia church where I still serve, I began my ministry by preaching on the epistle to the Romans. My first Sunday in that pulpit found me giving an exposition of the first verse of the epistle. The second Sunday I started with the second verse; and, as I did not finish by the time it was necessary to pronounce the benediction, I said, as I had when I had been teaching history in the university, “We will suspend our study at this point, and will begin from here in our next meeting together.”

For three and one half years I never took a text outside of the epistle to the Romans. I saw the church transformed; the audience filled the pews and then the galleries; and the work went on with great blessing. But just as important as the transformation of the church, there was the transformation of the preacher. The disciplined necessity of treating every verse in an entire epistle formed habits of study that organized the mind of the preacher for the whole of his task.

After more than twenty years, there came a renewed opportunity for a widespread radio ministry. I decided to begin expository studies in the epistle to the Romans. In this series, I have never used even a page of the notes which had served me twenty years before. And where I had then taken approximately 140 Sunday periods for the epistle, I soon discovered that it was going to take much more this time. In fact, it will be noted that the present volume contains twenty-seven studies on the first chapter of Romans alone.

This fact leads me to make an observation on the method of study which I am using. I believe that the only way to understand any given passage in the Word of God is to take the whole Bible and place the point of it, like an inverted pyramid on that passage, so that the weight of the entire Word rests upon a single verse, or, indeed, a single word. Thus I have not called this volume and the ones to follow a commentary, but rather expositions of the Word of God; expositions which take as their point of departure the book of Romans and range through the whole of the Bible in order to bring all of the correlated truth of the Word to bear on each line and word of the epistle. Thus, it will be discovered in later volumes that I have spent five or six chapters on a single word in order to bring the whole teaching of the Bible to bear on a particular doctrine which may be mentioned in Romans in no more than a single word or phrase.

It should be realized also that these studies have been prepared for immediate delivery, and that I was never more than eight or ten studies in advance of the actual moment of broadcast. And, even as I write this preface to the first of several …

Hope in Christ

We have a hymn that expresses the true Christian attitude toward these, as toward all who are in the bonds of deep sin:

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,

Snatch them, in pity, from sin and the grave;

Weep o’er the erring ones, lift up the fallen,

Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.

Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,

Feelings lie buried that grace can restore,

Touched by a loving hand, wakened with kindness,

Chords that were broken will vibrate once more.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,

Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;

Strength for thy labors the Lord will provide;

Back to the narrow way, patiently win them,

Tell them of Jesus, the Saviour, who died.

For there is hope for them in the Lord Jesus Christ, and there is no hope for them anywhere else in this world. There is salvation from the penalty of sin and there is salvation from the power of sin. The Lord Jesus Christ is able to save and to keep, and He is able to give you love for the unlovely and zeal for the rescue of the lost. And if some people are inclined to ask, “Why hath God made me thus?” the answer is that God has merely made divine laws, and that the natural consequences of those laws are coming out in specimens of the human race. The physical is nothing more than an illustration of the spiritual. God made man to turn outward and upward toward the Creator. A man who lives in the right relationship with God is able to live in right relationship toward his one wife whom the Lord has given him. If the man turns away from God, he turns toward himself and his kind, and begins to worship the creature rather than the Creator.

The immediate result is that his physical loves are thrown out of their proper channel. He fails to live within the divine-human trinity of the husband, the wife and the Lord who are, in no small sense, one; he breaks down the barriers of sex and, as he has turned toward himself, he ultimately is reaping in his own body the rotten fruit of that inbreeding sin, and is in the midst of all perversion. Newell adds a sentence in his commentary, “And it is significant, that, as originally woman took the lead in sin, so here!” But he adds, “And if God has ‘made you to differ,’ thank Him only! It will not do to hold up your hands in self-righteous dismay, and say, ‘These verses do not in any particular describe me.’ For God will show you and me that this is exactly the race as we were born into it, and out of which the only rescue is being born again. All these things pertain to lost, fallen man.”

Love Manifested

The mere recital of the abyss of iniquity into which the human race has plunged is an amazing enlargement of the love of God. For it was into the race of fallen man that God condescended to come. Like every member of the human race, the Virgin Mary was born in sin and shapen in iniquity. She is in Heaven today not because of any stainlessness of her own but because Jesus Christ died. …

“Today is Good Friday!”

Today we are celebrating good Friday on today 43 of our Lent and Intercessory prayer season… This has been a bitter sweet journey over these past 43 days… More sweeter than bitter mixed together which brings out our topic of discussion and prayer on today which is “MATURITY”….  Say it with me:  “MATURITY”…. Life alone has a way about bringing out maturity in us whether we want to mature or not… When I look at the word maturity I began to reminisce on how far we have come as a people… I’ve matured naturally, spiritually and as a Christian as a whole… Well, some people may say how do  you know?  You truly know when maturity has kicked in… It’s when you can tolerate things that once use to irk you the uttermost, and now the same things no longer phase you at this level of life… How does the dictionary define “Maturity”:      “He [Christ] wants a child’s heart, but a grown-up’s head.” – C.S. Lewis   “Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.” – Paul (1 Corinthians 14:20)

Discipline

Today as we get closer to Resurrection Sunday, the more excitement and momentum I feel… As we travel on this journey, today we are praying about “DISCIPLINE”… Most of the time when we hear to word discipline we automatically turn toward the negative side of the word…  In the bible, discipline was used for those that Jesus loved dearly…Proverbs 29:15 says: The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother…. Proverbs 22:15~15Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.

The Living Word of God is a Mother’s Greatest Resource

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4 ESV)

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 ESV)

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. (Proverbs 31:26 ESV)

“While society relates discipline to an uncontrolled use of physical punishment, Biblical discipline involves love, the heart, and God’s Word. Because God is concerned with the issues of the heart, biblical discipline involves much more than outward behavior. Biblical discipline gets to the heart of the problem. After all, if you can reach the heart, the behavior will take care of itself. In order for us to reach the hearts of our children we must realize that there is far more to parenting than getting our children to act right. We have to get them to think right and to be motivated out of a love of virtue rather than a fear of punishment. We do this by training them in righteousness. Righteous training can only come from the Word of God.” (Don’t Make Me Count to Three!)

James 5:16 (ESV) Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Hebrews 10:30 (ESV) For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

2 Corinthians 6:14 (ESV)Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

April 3, 2012 – is day number 42 on our 40 Days  of Lenten season… I know you might say, but it says 40 days…. Yes it it, but we are going to stretch it  out all the way until Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012… It’s been a bitter sweet journey, but we are almost there..  I had more sweet days and than bitter one’s during the Lenten season…If I had my way, I would have love to encounter the whole 40 days alone with just me and God..  Let’s face reality, everyday it’s just God, myself and the kid….  It’s sometimes we allow man and their problems to creep into the room making you feel like you’ve disappointed God once more…  Nevertheless, I don’t dwell on disappointed, but dwell on how many times I pleased God by doing or saying the right thing… I know everyday is not going to be roses, but I make it my business to make lemonade at the end of the day when I’m handed such a sour card… I try to find solutions on how I could have handled that situation better…  Life is a process, and I feel like we are all still learning how to deal with issues as they come.. I found, if you stay in the word of the Lord, and develop a real relationship with God… No matter what comes your way, you are still able to stand because you know who’s you are and when you know who’s you are you don’t have a problem following after him.

With all that said, I’m going to take the next few paragraphs to elaborate on the topic of discussion for today which is Intervention (Resolve family, financial, and personal issues).

For a lot of us, this issue right here is bigger than life itself…  Intervention… What is intervention?  I’m glad you asked…. As cited at www.dictionary.com – Intervention:  1. The act or fact of intervening or 2. Interposition or interference of one state in the affairs of another.

Intervention is always a great word to know. –
1. The act of intervening.
2. any interference in the affairs of others, esp by one state in the affairs of another.
3. economics  the action of a central bank insupporting the international value of acurrency by buying large quantities of the
currency to keep the price up.
4. commerce  the action of the EU in buying upsurplus produce when the market price dropsto a certain value.

“Let’s do our best on this holy week to (Resolve family, financial, and personal issues)”

I have enclosed some some wonderful research information I found from Intervention services which provides a large range of intervention treatment for families.. Some families are plagued by drugs, alcohol, sexual addictions… This information will help us with the help and prayers from God to resolve these different family issue…

Some families face financial and personal issues… Nevertheless, one problem can be greater than others, but they all can be resolved with a little knowledge and wisdom and no leaning to our own understanding…  Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart  and lean not on your own understanding; 6in all your ways submit to him,  and he will make your paths straight.

Christian Intervention

A Christian Intervention can bring them back to Christ

christian intervention 300x156 Christian Intervention

What is it that we do when our loved one has lost their way and their faith due to drugs and alcohol?  Oftentimes, a family whose life is centered in Christ feels more comfortable having a Christian Interventionist to help their loved one find their way. A Christian Intervention is performed with a foundation in faith and guided by an Interventionist who found his own personal recovery through accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Christian Intervention is ideal for someone who has sought faith or was raised in a Christian upbringing and found a faith that, at one time was working for them. However, using drugs or alcohol has separated them from feeling the presence of God in their life. Instead of connection, there is a feeling of disconnection. It is not God who has disconnected, but a thousand unhandled situations that create guilt, shame and remorse that are blocking the Christian from the sunlight of the Spirit. Alcohol and drugs replace that feeling of disconnection with an artificial sense of connection with other people and the world around. But these artificial feelings are a trap and are always temporary. The alcohol and drug based connections fade away over time and the substance abuser is left feeling even more empty. The world is now empty for them. Even sitting amongst their own loving family can sometimes be an uncomfortable reminder of what once was…when they were happy. He seeks oblivion to make the uncomfortable feelings go away.

But even under these conditions, God is working in their life..

The universe is slowly being rearranged, the temporal distractions that are blocking him are being removed. Perhaps they lose their job, perhaps the money is gone. He is reaching his bottom. And then family discovers that maybe there is a chance to bring them back. Speaking with a Christian Intervention provider, the plans are made.

A Christian Intervention can bring the family back together

Arriving at the family home, the Christian Interventionist gives his testimony and the family begins to feel the stirrings of hope. The following day the substance abuser sits in the living room surrounded by his loving family…but he doesn’t feel that way, he feels alone. Initially defensive, he believes his problems are external. The letters are slowly read and the presence of the Holy Spirit begins to fill the room. After minutes or hours the substance abuser’s objections are handled by the Christian Interventionist one by one. And then there is a long pause. A sense of relief passes over the substance abuser as he looks at his family. “Ok, I will go.”

After a period of shocked silence, the family isn’t sure if what they heard was true. Usually they ask “Did you just say you are going?” to be sure. And then the one who was the loneliest person in the room is surrounded in hugs, laughter and tears.

And for a moment we see a glimpse of the work of God.

The Family Intervention

family intervention1 300x200 The Family Intervention

Family Intervention – Because it isthe family that suffers most.

Why is it that we are coming together and having a family intervention?  Is it for our loved one, the addict?  Or is it really for us?  After a hundred drunken episodes, lost jobs or failed marriages, the addict or alcoholic usually seems to remain relatively oblivious to the misery that he or she is causing their loved ones. Aside from the occasional mumbled apology, or the brief moments of self-pity, it appears that he or she takes very little accountability or responsibility for his or her own actions.

It is the family that always suffers most…not the addict. If an addict becomes too uncomfortable, they can always just ingest another pill, take another drink, or smoke another joint to “make it all go away” leaving you to feel the consequences. It is you, the family member, who stays up all night when he’s “out with the boys” again. You are the one who feels unwanted when your husband is passed out on the couch. You are the one who feels the pain of another lost job or failure. The family members are the ones that suffer the most, and the family has been harmed as a result. So it is with you that we must begin our focus. Our family intervention process is broken up into two days, respectively called the “Family Consultation Day” and the “Family Intervention Day”. It is on “Family Consultation Day”, which lasts approximately 6-8 hours, where we can help to begin the healing of the family itself.

A Family Intervention can begin the healing in your family

Intervention Services was started by two brothers, both seriously affected by addiction. One, a drug addict who was slowly killing himself; the other trying desperately to save his brother. We have been in your shoes…and we understand in a way that perhaps few do.

Statistically most drug addicts or alcoholics do not get sober. The idea that one day most alcoholics or addicts wake up and eventually “figure it out” is a fallacy. The alcoholic or addict is usually the least qualified to know how much trouble they are in. Some end up in jail, some overdose or die in automobile accidents, some commit suicide. Some just continue on and on, slowly fading away…the long goodbye. Most never find sobriety and the suffering family waits for a miracle..

Sobriety almost always begins when an outside event occurs that causes an alcoholic or addict to look differently at their life. Sometimes it is after the loss of a job, or a divorce, or when they lose custody of their children. Sometimes it is after they lose everything and end up on the streets. But sobriety doesn’t have to begin that way. The addict doesn’t have to take it all the way to the bottom, for sometimes the bottom is irreversible. Recovery can begin with you…the one who loves them. This is what a family intervention is about.

The S.M.A.R.T. Model of Family Interventions

The substance abusers are different, the families are different, and the solutions are different.  Therefore it is important to understand that the intervention goals themselves need to be different depending on the family and the substance abuser.  Intervention Services uses the S.M.A.R.T. Model of Family Interventions, which allows room to choose the options that best serve your family and understands that there are at least 3 types of family interventions:

1) Recovery Intervention: This type of family intervention has, as it’s end goal, active and usually life-time participation in recovery.  Although most commonly using traditional approaches such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, a recovery intervention may also include Christian or faith-based alternatives such as Celebrate Recovery or other support groups.  A Recovery Intervention may include many aspects of our continuum of care, including inpatient treatment followed by sober living residency for up to 6 months, followed by active participation is support group meetings, outpatient, etc.  The goal of a Recovery Intervention is complete lifestyle change and dedication to recovery.

2) Crisis Intervention: A Crisis Intervention only seeks to handle the immediate unhealthy behaviors of a loved one.  When a child is only experimenting in drugs, binge drinking, or maybe only showing a few signs of abuse, it can sometimes be counter-productive to have one family member dedicated towards pushing a teenager into a lifetime commitment to participation in recovery meetings, and the rest of the family thinking that this is only an unhealthy phase that must be addressed.  Intervention Services uses a Systemic form of family interventions, which means that we have to work collectively as a family unit.  To disintegrate the family and work against each other is one of the worst things that can occur with any intervention

3) Closure Intervention: A Closure Intervention allows a family to feel that they have done everything possible before moving on to a different stage in their life.  Sometimes family members call us and they are rather blunt. “This intervention isn’t about Jim…it is about us.”  Occasionally there are issues of child custody, years of alcohol and drug abuse, feelings of apathy, major illness surrounding a loved one who has “given up”, or just the understanding that the substance abuser has a short time left and we all need to know that we tried. Closure interventions are a way for a family (or family member) to become “unstuck”.  Historically very powerful experiences for all involved, it is an honor for Intervention Services to help guide a family that needs an Intervention of Closure.

In essence, it is important to have an intervention service provider that is willing and able to tailor the intervention towards your needs and expected outcomes.  Although we, at Intervention Services, are considered an authority on family interventions, that doesn’t mean we must be inflexible.  Allow us to guide you through making a choice that has the ideal solutions for your loved ones.

Why Families Wait

It is common knowledge within the intervention field that over 90% of clients who are intervened on end up agreeing to enter treatment. However, less than 5% of family members who reach out an inquire about an intervention, actually end up having an intervention done on their loved one. Which means that it is easier to convince an unwilling addict or alcoholic to enter treatment then it is to convince a family to let us do it.

The question is why?

“Why Families Wait?” is a presentation delivered by our Founder, David Lee, at the Mt. Vernon, Iowa Town Hall to family members, educators, and law enforcement to help understand the complex dynamics involved when connected to a substance abuser.

Video Response Series

If you are in need of a detailed answer to a question you may have in regards to your loved one, you may write/email us a question about your family situation and we may provide a video response for you.  All video responses, although publicly made, have been altered to adhere to the utmost in confidentiality and respect of the delicacy of your situation.

Understanding Enabling is to help families to understand Enabling in a different way then they have had it explained before.  A part of our Intervention Video Response Series, which answers questions emailed in from families in need of help, this has become one of our most popular.-
reaching the bottom Why Families Wait Reaching the Bottom

Reaching the Bottom is another in our Intervention Video Responses Series.  Does your loved one need to reach their bottom in order to change?  It is important for families to collectively understand that waiting for this mysterious event, this “bottom” that they have often been mistakenly informed of…often results in disastrous consequences.

More Intervention and Educational Presentations:

In addition to “Why Families Wait”, the following presentations are examples of the many public service presentations that we provide for schools, educators, treatment providers, churches, and social services.  If you are in need of a workshop or presentation, please contact us for scheduling.

Our Helping was Hurting is a presentation delivered by co-founder Kevin Lee.  An honest portrayal of a family struggling to help an addict to achieve sobriety, Kevin speaks from a personal perspective as a family member who knows what it is like to have a family stumble through all the “right actions” which only left them more frustrated in the end.

How much can you give to save your loved one’s life?  Will you give your money, your time, your prayers?  Will you even give yourself until there is nothing left of you?  Every family enables in some way.  Kevin Lee, co-founder of Intervention Services speaks frankly on how his family continued to sacrifice everything, all in the name of love. And how it wasn’t until they learned how their helping had been hurting that the situation began to truly change.

Education (Teachers, Students, Charter Schools, HBCUs)

As we embark on day 41 of our lenten season of pray, fasting and discussion… We go the extra mile until Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012… Yes, you can do anything you put your mind to… The challenge of me “Not” answering my phone or returning phone calls unless it has been vital or an emergency have been a real blessing, and it’s showed me that if people want to communicate with you bad enough, they will find a way to get in contact with you via email electronically, text messaging, voicemail, etc… It’s going to be my new way of life for now on… All these other forms I mention are forms of communication, it just require your writing skills which leads me to our topic of discussion on today which is “Education” (Teachers, Students, Charter Schools, HBCUs)… Let’s always focus on education because in the book of Hosea 4:6 (NIV) My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

Employment (Find Jobs)

I love this proverb: “Give a man a fish and he won’t starve for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he won’t starve for his entire life.” (author unknown)

John 15:7 (ESV)If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Philippians 4:19 (ESV) And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.Today as we embark on this 39th day of Lenten Season… Today we are praying for and making our topic of focus: Employment (Find Jobs)…  In today’s economy, we know that finding a real job is a job by itself, unless you have some type of inside hook up that can help you get your foot in the door.. It’s just the way it is.. .It’s no longer what you know in some cases, unless you have a specialty profession such a Physician, Lawyer, Clergy, Real Estate, Loans, etc.,  or a specialty skilled worker such as a x-ray or ultrasound technician, teacher, etc..  Even then,  the market is still tough to get into some of these major corporations that offer full scale packages with benefits…. You can go to school for umpteen years and still have to wait in line just like the next man who has over 20+ years of experience on job and in employment.. It’s hard for the veterans, and laymen as myself with ample amount of experience with the economy alone..

Nevertheless, don’t freight because no matter what, God has got your back and as long as you are trusting him for Employment as you seek for a job, he will supply all of your needs according to his riches in glory if we just learn how to ask…  The bible says, we have NOT because we ask NOT!   Ask, and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door of employment will come open…   If you sit around and throw yourself a self pity party, you will never find a job or be employed in this economy where even the minimum wage job is starting to look appealing…   Matter of fact, some minimum wage jobs and entry level position at places such as In and Out Burger and Costco are starting entry level employees out with a minimum of $10.00  an hour which is at least above average that you can keep a roof over your head somewhere and food to eat….  It’s really all about dropping the pride and going into survival mode for you and or your family….

I tell my clients all the time,   write down all of your skills to know what you can do….  Just because your tittle says one thing, the job itself that you have done in the past consist of many modalities which you can pull  out individual skills and transpose the skills you have and transfer them to another whole profession completely… It’s called  transposing  your skills to fit into a whole other class of jobs…

Also, don’t sit around and do nothing….  Volunteer at one of your local charities such as United Way, Red Cross, any local hospital or places that accept volunteers…  Your kids school need volunteers all the time to come in and help…  You never know, your skills and work you give away for free  just could open a door for employment as well…

Also, I am  a firm believer in Entrepreneurship… Create a job that don’t exist yourself… You can, and you are capable of owning your own business…. If you can’t get a job be creative with your God given talents and find a ways to put  what  you have to offer on the market…  As for me, I’ve always  done private consultant work behind the scenes as a clerical worker… I’ve done anything from helping individuals start their own business,  build their own website and show them how to maintain it, and taking them through each step to do it… Also, transcribing independently for private practices.   Also partnering with companies like Amway, Avon, Tupperware, Cookie Lee jewelry, and many more companies I can name that will give you the opportunity to own your own share selling their products, or you can branch out on your own like I do and create your own information you can sell and make a living do so.. People need information all the time… Write a book in your area of expertise and contribute what you know to this world…  You never know, it just might turn up on the New York best sellers list..

I wish I had time in this piece to tell my oldest son story on how he became a multimillionaire off  what he loved so dearly and became so passionate about…  It’s the gifts that God give us are the one’s we can share with the world best… The very thing you enjoy doing the most is the very thing you can try and create as a job and offer your services to the world via www.beyourself.com or org. , etc.. All I’m saying is come out of the box when you think of Employment and finding a job….  Maybe a job will find you once people know what you do, then you become in demand…. I do believe that I am in demand, and some great company is looking at me as we speak and write this piece..  I too desire better employment and want  to be on top of the world too as I raise a 9-year-old alone as a single parent… It becomes hard at times because of circumstances that he may encounter, and yet I’ve found it really hard to hold down a full time job outside of the home since he has been born… Don’t get me wrong, I have not missed a beat since I’ve had him, but the game is a little more challenging when you can receive a call at the drop of the hat that  you are needed in your childs life in the middle of the day… I’ve found working from home is more flexible for me, but gets a little boring at times being that I’ve worked outside of the home when I raised my first family over 29 years ago…    It’s all good and as long as you are trying and doing something, at least submitting applications and up to date resume’s and going to job fairs… Also networking is good too, because like I said in the beginning of this piece, it not what you know these days…. It’s really about who you know, and I’m going to leave you with this… As long as you know that God is the creator of all things and you continue to put your love and trust in him, he shall and he will provide all of your needs and yes Employment and finding a job fall in the category of all of your needs!!!

Be blessed and pray blessings right now over each or your lives that are reading this blog and are seeking employment and need to find a job… I pray right now that A door be open that no man can shut, and your every need is met in the mighty name of Jesus we pray… Amen!

Government Jobs

Man in Suit Looking for a Government JobFinding a job with the Federal Government is the ideal employment scenario for millions of individuals. There is approximately 1.7 to 2 million people employed by the Federal Government with an estimated 400 different occupational specialties in the government workforce. Furthermore, these government jobs are located across the country and, indeed, throughout the world in various capacities. For instance, only an estimated 10 percent of government employees actually work within Washington D.C. proper while government employees can be found across the globe.

Government jobs are all arranged according to a standardized scale. This standardized scale is known as the GS code or the General Schedule which runs on a continuum from GS 1 to GS 15 with the higher number being indicative of higher salary and more authority. In searching for a job with the Federal Government identifying the specific job title for the type of position that you are searching for is critical. In order to locate a potential job opening in marketing for instance, marketing is not the job title but rather Market Analyst would be. So you must first identify the specific job titles that are of interest to you in your job search with the Federal Government.

Call us today at (888) 247-3786 to request a FREE consultation or to speak with a Certified Job Search Expert.

The Federal Government is almost always hiring. Certainly the macroeconomic environment can affect how many positions are available but the sheer size of the Federal Government ensures that positions are opening all the time. As recently as 2004, U.S. Government Agencies such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs employed in excess of 232 thousand people while the U.S. Department of Homeland Security employed an estimated 160 thousand individuals. Smaller government departments such as the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission employed around 4,500 and 3,500 people respectively. Thus, there are myriad choices for people that want to find federal jobs with the Government.

But where does one start looking? There are literally hundreds of websites and employment databases that facilitate a Federal Government related job search. One of the first places you should explore is the U.S. Office of Personnel Management which can be found at www.opm.gov. This is the gateway website for federal service and hosts a huge amount of reference material for potential job applicants. Another important website in the job search with the Federal Government is the www.usajobs.gov website in which you can search federal jobs by keyword as well as by location. However, there are in excess of 100 Federal Agencies in the Federal Government and each one handles its own recruitment, screening and hiring processes. Furthermore, an estimated 39 percent of all federal jobs are in the Southeast region of the U.S. so a willingness to relocate may also help.

In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. …

Incarcerated

Isaiah 61:1 (ESV) The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

As we embark on this journey of our 40 days of Lenten season, today we will be praying and discussing Incarceration.  When I hear the word incarceration I immediately began to think of a person that is not free.

Many of us have loved one’s that are behind prison walls… It tend to be a pretty common place for most of our black and brown men of today and yesterday… I encouraged each of you to begin to pray for someone you may or may not know that is incarcerated.   Also, pray those loved one’s that are free but has imprisoned their minds to the mental capacity that they have given up on life.. I believe, if we began to intercede on their behalf, lives will be change right where they are and the captives mind will be set free, which gives them another chance at life.   No matter what a person has done, Jesus still loves them in spite of their mistakes or intentions.   If a person is honestly sorry, repent and or ask the Lord for forgiveness, he  is a faithful and just God and will forgive you of all your sins.

Please, if  you will… Take time out of your busy schedule and go pay a surprise visit to a love one or friend that  is incarcerated.. .You never know, you might be that face that will change their mindset forever… Most of all, it’s a matter of them feeling free withing themselves… Locked away, yet free… The bible says: whom the son set free, is free indeed…

The Disciples Cross: The Message Behind the IHVS Christian

The first discipline is Obedience and faith, it is the central focus of book one, What Does the Bible Say? Obedience and faith is what binds all the other spiritual disciplines together. Without them the cross can not support itself. In the pages of the Bible, Jesus instructed: “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you” (John 13:15). Obeying God’s Word is not easy. History has shown that our human nature is prone to resist authority. We see that in Genesis chapter 3 when man disobeyed the Heavenly Father and the result was devastating. Man was separated from God. Disobedience has a similar affect upon our relationship with the Lord today. But God is faithful. He will forgive us our sins and restore our relationship if we will confess our sins and return follow His instructions (1 John 1:9).

Witnessing is another Christian discipline and will be the central focus of book two,Fishers of Men. Witnessing is not an option for a Christian. Jesus commanded the preaching of the gospel to all nations (c.f., Matthew 28:19-20), and it is the duty of every child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness under girded by a Christian lifestyle in harmony with the gospel of Christ. Jesus also reminded us that God is pleased when we witness. “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples” (John 15:8).

Prayer will be the central focus of book three, Move Mountain. Is has been said that prayer is to the Christian what breathing is to the body. More specifically, prayer is both talking and listening to God. At the same time, prayer is recognizing the presence of God (Psalm 118:18) as we claim promises of God (2 Peter 1:4). Equally important, prayer is the Christian’s source of strength and power, a means of discovering the will of God, and biblically mandated means of having our needs met (Philippians 4:19). Jesus promises, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7).

Fellowship will be emphasized in Love One Another. Based on what I like to call The Eleventh Commandment, Jesus’ instructions in John 13:34-35 is clear, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” We are to love others because Jesus loved us first. His model is our inspiration and his legacy is the defining quality of our new life as disciples.

Service will be the focus of IHVS book five, You Are My Friend. A New Testament church is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers that can affect lasting, positive change in the lives of others. Both men and women are gifted to serve and be friends to others. One of my favorite passages in all of scripture is John 15:13. There we read, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.” It is fascinating to me to realize that Jesus considers me to be his friend. Being a friend to others has a similar impact on people.

Finally, the focus of the last book in the IHVS series, Show Thyself Approved, will bediscipleship. This is the all-encompasses discipline that expands the entire cross. Christianity is the faith of enlightenment and knowledge and in Jesus Christ rests all wisdom. Thus, all sound learning is a part of our Christian faith, and Christian education is a necessary component to a complete spiritual program for Christ’s people. Once again, Jesus teaches, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24).

Isaiah 42:1-25 (ESV)Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law. Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: …

Incarceration is the detention of a person in prison, typically as punishment for a crime (custodial sentence).

People are most commonly incarcerated upon suspicion or conviction of committing a crime, and different jurisdictionshave differing laws governing the function of incarceration within a larger system of justice. Incarceration serves four essential purposes with regard to criminals:

  • to isolate criminals to prevent them from committing more crimes
  • to punish criminals for committing crimes
  • to deter others from committing crimes
  • to rehabilitate criminals

Incarceration rates, when measured by the United Nations, are considered distinct and separate from the imprisonment of political prisoners and others not charged with a specific crime. Historically, the frequency of imprisonment, its duration, and severity have varied considerably. There has also been much debate about the motives for incarceration, its effectiveness and fairness, as well as debate regarding the related questions about the nature and etiology ofcriminal behavior.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 ESV

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Philippians 1:27 ESV

Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,

1 John 2:1-29 ESV

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: …

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. …

Psalm 91:1-16 ESV

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, …

Now when David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of theLord is under a tent.” And Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.” But that same night the word of the Lordcame to Nathan, “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: It is not you who will build me a house to dwell in. For I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from dwelling to dwelling. …

Numbers 3:1-51 ESV

These are the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests. But Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, this is how he is doomed to be killed. …

Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

Romans 14:1-23 ESV

As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. …

Order (No Confusion, Chaos)

Bishop TD Jakes – Spellbreaker

March 28, 2012 Order (No Confusion, Chaos) 1 Corinthians 14:33 : For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Today, as we embark on this powerful 40 days of Lenten Season, today we are praying about Order (No Confusion, Chaos).  If we tell the truth, most our lives have no order, and seem to be filled with lots of confusion and chaos, but God says in his word that he is not author of confusion! 1 Corinthians 14:33 : For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

5. a condition in which each thing is properly disposed with reference to other things and to its purpose; methodical or

Jeremiah 29:11

God is not the author of confusion

Here’s the thing I’ve learned…..sometimes it takes getting hit in the head with a brick…..but I get the point….eventually!!!
“God is not the author of confusion”.   After looking back over my life, I really know what it means to say that God is not the author of confusion.    It seems like no matter what you do or where you go, confusion will follow.. I realized that half my battles in my past 30 years were not even my own, but I have such a deep love for my family and the people of God, and just have this gene where I feel the need to protect those the seem helpless when the enemy comes against them… I feel God made me to deal with confusion and chaos.. However, I do know that God is God of order and he does not endorse bad behavior and us acting unseemingly.. God is a God of  “LOVE” and “ORDER” – He said in 1 Corinthians 14:40  – Let all things be done decently and in order.  On that note, I’m praying for order in my life, my families life, my friends all around the world that may be struggling as I do in this area.  God is able to do anything but fail…
I Corinthians 14:33
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…
When you hear somebody recite a verse of scripture and you think it might not have a thing in the world to do with you personally.. Think again!!!
God is ALWAYS speaking to us and he knows what is going  in our lives.  Sometimes we prolong things that we know are not right, making matter 10 times worse than they really are… I plead the blood of Jesus and pray Peace right now in each of our lives in Jesus’s precious and Holy name knowing that  God knows about every situation  and he really does care!  There are many time when we just have to be reminded  and  understanding  that:  “God is not the author of confusion”  and he wants us to live a fulfilling and victorious life in him..
Jeremiah 29:11
Jesus Loves Us!.

What do I have to do to go to heaven?

God isn’t waiting to judge you. God isn’t waiting to condemn you. He’s waiting to receive you with mercy, with love, with open arms, and forgive all your sins. Will you come to Him? Will you turn from your sin and promise to live for Him?

“If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9

“To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” — John 1:12

He asked, “‘What must I do to be saved?’ They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.’” — Acts — Acts 16:30,31

Happy 9th Birthday Justin ~ Mommy “Loves” you !

Justin you are the apple of my eye, the pick me up when I’m down, and the bundle of joy God gave to me that I would not trade for the world.  Yet at times, it seemed challenging, but with help from the all mighty God my challenge became my triumph and for that I’m truly grateful for you!

Happy 9th birthday
